A new feud has erupted between the formerly inseparable Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex.
Brothers Prince William and Prince Harry have been through their share of ups and downs over the last few years.
But despite it all, New Idea understands that William had hoped that one day he might reconcile with his only sibling – that is, until Harry’s latest underhanded move.
The final break in the brothers’ already fractured relationship was dealt when Harry, 39, continued to spout hurtful statements about his family in the new ITV documentary Tabloids on Trial.
Adding insult to injury, he said his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, was “very much up there, going, ‘See this through to the end.’”
“This past year just goes from bad to worse as far as William is concerned,” an insider tells New Idea. “Harry won’t let up his provocations. He’s out of control and a loose cannon, going against the family’s advice with this lawsuit, then saying he had support from the late Queen.”
Our insider adds: “There’s not a chance in hell the Queen would have approved of family members suing anyone, but the British press is just plain foolish.
“There was a time when the brothers had to be talked down from a lawsuit and as frustrating as it was to ‘rise above it’, William knows it was the right thing in the end. It doesn’t make sense that Harry would do this.”
As a result, a new feud has erupted between the brothers and our insider says it will be “almost impossible” for the brothers to repair their relationship.
“It’s all but over between them.”
Most devastating was Harry’s mention of their late mother, Princess Diana, during his interview for the documentary.
While William, 42, has previously shared that Diana was paranoid and she confided in him as such, Harry’s adamant she wasn’t.
“I think ‘paranoia’ is a very interesting word,” Harry began. “There’s evidence to suggest that [my mother] was being hacked in the mid-’90s, probably one of the first people to be hacked. And yet still today, the tabloid press very much enjoy painting her as being paranoid. But she wasn’t paranoid.”
Our source notes that Wills wishes Harry would stop bringing up the past.
“William is spitting mad that Harry would reference this again. He’s so fed up with [the Sussexes] cashing in on Diana’s death,” says the insider.
“Harry just won’t move on, and it appears that since marrying Meghan, the obsession with his mother has only intensified.”
“William’s getting to the point where he’s washing his hands of Harry for good. He doesn’t recognise his brother. The decisions Harry continues to make are only making relations with the royal family worse.
“William did hope for a reconciliation with his brother one day, but he doesn’t know this person anymore. He doesn’t trust Harry and the fact he’s believing his own spin is a major red flag for him.”
