The Block winners Will Bethune and Karlie Cicero are thanking their lucky stars after walking away with $815,000.
Described as an almost record-breaking profit, the win couldn’t have come at a better time for the engaged couple who had sent themselves broke to go on the show.
Speaking to News.com.au, Bethune said: ‘We’d seen previous years of The Block, and some people walking away with $10,000 … We’re a young couple and we’d put our lives on hold. We’d just bought our first home and struggling to pay our mortgage while being on The Block was very difficult. We actually became quite broke and very stressed.’
“For our [lost] wages and the amount of savings that we’d dipped into on The Block, we thought anything over $100,000 would be great. Anything over $200,000 we’d be ecstatic with,” Karlie says.
Cicero told the Daily Telegraph: ‘We are over the moon and just cannot believe what happened.
‘When we applied to be on the show we didn’t think we’d get on.
‘As a young couple struggling financially, winning The Block is going to set us up for the rest or our lives,’ she concluded.
