Masterchef judge Matt Preston said George Calombaris was right to apologise for reportedly attacking a fan at a football game.
The food critic told Nova 100’s Chrissie, Sam and Browny ‘you don’t behave like that’ when speaking about his co-star’s actions.
Calombaris made headlines in April when it was revealed he had underpaid his restaurant staff by $2.6 million
Following the news, a Sydney FC fan verbally abused him about underpaying his staff, prompting the reality TV host to lash out at him.
Chrissy Swan defended his actions on-air.
‘You can’t do that, you can’t provoke somebody and cry about it when they retaliate,’ she said.
Preston responded: ‘I think George has been very open – you don’t behave like that, you can’t do that.’
After the incident occurred, Calumbaris apologised for his behaviour.
‘I am really disappointed with what occurred last night. I was genuinely shocked when post-match football banter turned into personal abuse about my family,’ he said.
“I regret the way in which I reacted, I am disappointed that I let it get to me, and I sincerely apologise for offending anyone.’
