She might be taking Hollywood by storm, but behind Margot Robbie’s charm and endearing sense of humour is a sad secret.
The 26-year-old Suicide Squad star often talks about how she was raised by a single mother. Now New Idea can exclusively reveal that Margot’s dad Doug Robbie is a rich and powerful property and sugarcane tycoon, who lives just a stone’s throw away from her mum Sarie Kessler on the Gold Coast.
But relations between Margot and her dad are bitter because Doug split from her mother when the megastar was barely out of nappies – leaving Sarie to raise Margot and her three siblings single-handedly as he pursued success and fortune.
While he paid for Margot and her brothers and sisters – Cameron, Lachlan and Anya – to attend private schools on the Gold Coast, it’s claimed he wasn’t close to his kids and sometimes went weeks without speaking to them – leaving his daughter feeling alone and heartbroken.
‘It was unconventional, but Doug always paid his way when it came to the kids,’ an insider tells New Idea.
