And while the tireless pair are relishing the chance to transform dark and dated spaces into glam and gorgeous rooms, it’s far from the only string to the married couple’s bow. In fact, the former high school sweethearts from Melbourne are professional dance teachers – not to mention doting parents of 16-month-old Casper.

Life, it seems, is busier than ever for Pete, 32, and Courtney, 31 – and they wouldn’t have it any other way.

“We feel so lucky with the way everything has turned out,” says Pete. “We were friends first, and we’re still friends now. That’s been really important.

“Some people can grow apart, but we’ve been very lucky that we’ve always had really similar interests. We’ve always worked together and we’ve grown together.”

Indeed, having known each other for the best part of 20 years, Pete and Courtney clearly make a great team.

“We met when we were about 13 and were friends all through high school,” says Pete. “We used to perform in the same dance productions, but we didn’t start going out until we went to a Year 12 formal together.

“I think we were friends for so long that becoming a couple just became a really normal, natural progression of our friendship. It just evolved into something more.”

Recalls Courtney of that fateful evening: “It was just a fun night and I remember Pete looking really handsome.”

Many years later, between main course and dessert, Pete asked Courtney to be his wife.

“We were at home and I cooked dinner for us,” says Pete, adding with a smile, “I popped the question after the lamb shanks and before the chocolate brownies.

“I do love to cook and, I have to say the room I was most looking forward to being renovated on House Rules was our kitchen. I really enjoy spending time in it.”

On November 2, 2015, the couple exchanged vows by the water in Melbourne with 150 family and friends.

“Courtney was breathtaking – she just looked beautiful,” recalls Pete, who admits to shedding “more than a few tears” of joy on the day. “It was such a fun and easy day and I loved every minute of it,” adds Courtney. “Walking down the aisle was really exciting.”

And it’s no surprise to learn that the talented couple took to the dance floor at their nuptials.

“We did have a choreographed wedding dance, but it was very relaxed, soft and beautiful,” says Pete. “It wasn’t one of these YouTube internet sensation dances with the bridal party as the back-up.

“There are few times in your life where you have all the people you love in the one room at the same time. That’s a really strong memory from the day.”

As for little Casper, the couple couldn’t be prouder. “He’s actually the best baby ever,” says Courtney. “I don’t know how we didn’t have him before!” Little wonder, too, Casper is already showing signs of following in his parents’ fancy footsteps. “He loves music and bops up and down,” beams Courtney. “We can definitely see rhythm already.”
