Running Summer Bay’s Diner with her best friend Leah (Ada Nicodemou) has always been far more than simply a business venture for Irene (Lynne McGranger).

But could the veteran resident lose everything she’s ever worked for if she is found guilty of assaulting Bella’s attacker Tommy (Adam Sollis)?

Unfortunately, that seems to be a real possibility, with Irene this week learning from her lawyer that Tommy has plans to sue her in civil court. And if that happens, a distraught Irene discovers, her assets will immediately be frozen.

“There’s every chance that Tommy could take all that Irene owns,” confirms Lynne. “With Bella (Courtney Miller) still not able to testify, this is yet another huge pothole in the road for Irene.”

Soon after, Irene tells Leah that she has come to a decision – she wants to hand over her share of the Diner to her. “Irene is terrified that if she doesn’t do this, Leah will get caught up in everything,” says Lynne. “So she begs Leah to take full ownership of the Diner.”

As Lynne reveals, however, Leah is anything but agreeable to the idea.

“The last thing Leah wants to do is to take Irene’s livelihood away,” says Irene. “Irene begs her to sign the document, but Leah absolutely refuses to do so.”

Meanwhile, Leah is busy hatching a plan of her own – and it’s one she’s convinced will give Irene new-found strength to face her impending court battle.
