Television’s favourite Zoologist is back but this time Chris Humfrey takes us into the depths of his own and very unique backyard in his new series, Chris Humfrey’s Animal Instinct.

With a fun-loving sense of humour and a passion for animals, the modern day Dr Dolittle shares with New Idea the ins and outs of his day-to-day life and reveals what it’s really like to live with the animals.

‘As an adult and as a scientist, when you spend so much time with an individual animal – you live with them and you hand raise them – they are a part of your family,’ Chris explains. ‘They’re like your children so they do have a connection with you that they don’t share with other people – they really do like being around you and they don’t fear you at all.‘

Chris has spent his adult life working with animals and as it turns out, Chris is no stranger to being in front of a camera either. In fact, Chris started out as a reporter on ‘Talk to the Animal’s with Dr Chris Brown’ before venturing out on his own with ‘Chris Humfrey’s Wildlife’.

With the first episode of Chris’s show airing last week, he showed how far he would go for his animal family, even sharing a bath with his pet python Bertha. But what seems to be super whacky and outrageous to the audience, for Chris, it’s just a part of the job and, as Chris reveals, eating Koala poop really isn’t that bad!

‘When I do things like eat koala poo people say, ‘Oh that’s disgusting’ but it’s not really. It’s only gum leaves – it actually tastes like Mentos,’ Chris laughs.

Other activities Chris enjoys are serenading tiger quolls, breeding possums in wine cellars, and battling one of Australia’s largest python’s – all of which will be featured throughout the series. A perfect show for the whole family – Chris Humfrey’s Animal Instinct is guaranteed to both shock and educate as we meet more of Chris’ feathery and fury friends.

With Chris’s undying passion and his admission that there’s always so much more to film and explore, we can only hope there’ll be more seasons in store.

Chris Humfrey’s Animal Instinct is on Animal Planet Saturday’s at 6:30pm AEST.
