Entertainment veteran Patti Newton’s time on radio appears to be over for now, after she announced she was leaving the Nightline show.
Sharing the news on Instagram, the mum of two admitted she was devastated.
“My last night on 3AW with Philip and Simon. I’ll miss them very much, have been with them and Bruce for many years. The end of an era and feeling sad,” she wrote.
Patti leaving the show would have no doubt come as a shock for her husband, Australian TV royalty Bert, as it appears to have been a trying week for the Newtons.
WATCH: Maggie Kirkpatrick accuses Bert Newton of “inappropriate behaviour”
The news follows reports that alleged Bert had behaved ‘inappropriately’ with a fellow cast member during their time on stage in the musical Wicked.
In her new book, Prisoner star Maggie Kirkpatrick says:
“I found Bert’s attitude to me offstage quite inappropriate, thus making working with him uncomfortable to say the least.”
However, celebrity journalist Peter Ford – who describes himself as a friend to both stars – said Maggie’s words could lead people to assume something ‘physical’ or ‘sexual’ happened, which he doesn’t believe to be the case.
Peter also criticised Maggie –who he claims ‘loathed’ Bert – for not going into greater detail.
While Bert is said to have declined to comment on the incident, he apparently told a reporter he “knew I’d get a serve” when he heard Maggie was writing her memoirs.
But Bert, and Patti, have made the right choice not to be drawn into the allegations and instead support each other in private.
