Back in 2006, Elisabeth Hasselbeck was set to walk off The View after a particularly emotional discussion with Barbara Walters surrounding the availability of the morning after pill

And in audio from that day, which has been released for a new book Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View, Elisabeth can be heard trying to quit the US talk show in the middle of a commercial break.

LISTEN to Elisabeth Hasselbeck ‘quit’ The View after her argument with Barbara Walters below.

Elisabeth had argued taking the pill is “the same thing as birthing a baby and leaving it out in the street,” and wouldn’t let the other co-hosts provide their opposing points of view.

Barbara interrupts her. “Could you stop now?” Walters says. “We have to go on and we have to learn how to discuss these things in some sort of rational way.”

As the show cuts to a commercial break, Elisabeth leaves the table, tearing up her note cards.

We then hear audio of everything that occurs backstage, including Elisabeth threatening to walk off the set and quit the show.

With just seconds until they are back on air, she’s convinced back onto the set to face Barbara.
