Following ABC’s expose of horse racing, Anthony Callea has confirmed on Studio 10 that he will sing the national anthem at the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, after big wig Taylor Swift pulled out of her headlining performance last month.

“Anthony you’ve got the biggest, greatest honour tomorrow singing the national anthem on cup day,” and excited Nadia Bartel said to the former Australian Idol runner-up, “How are you feeling?”
“I’m nervous, I’m definitely nervous,” Anthony revealed.
“It’s an absolute honour to be asked to sing the national anthem and represent your country on the world stage and as a Melbourne boy, being here for the Melbourne cup is a massive honour and I hope I don’t stuff it up.”
As for his outfit, Anthony insists: “I am wearing something quite phenomenal.”
Last month, a campaign calling for Kelly Rowland to bow out of performing at the Melbourne Cup went viral, following a confronting ABC report on racehorses and slaughterhouses.
After international superstar Taylor Swift pulled out of performing at the Melbourne Couple citing a scheduling clash, a new viral campaign has begun, asking for The Voice judge and former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland to also pull out of performing.
In the wake of such controversies, fans are also taking to Twitter to express their disappointment over Callea’s decision to perform, with one social media user writing: “How about nup to the cup and donate anyway? Disappointed you are supporting gambling, alcohol abuse and animal cruelly #nuptothecup.”
Despite the Melbourne Cup continuing to cause controversy, Anthony will go ahead with his performance.
