It was an evening of sensational style and some shocking surprises at the 91st Academy Awards with a number of unexpected winners taking home a coveted Oscar.
The 2019 Oscars, which ran relatively smoothly despite the absence of an official host, made history with Ruth E. Carter becoming the first black woman to win an Academy Award for costume design.
But it was the final and most hotly anticipated category – Best Picture – which produced the most surprising result, with Green Book taking home the trophy.

Starring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali, the real-life story is based on a road trip through the deep south of the US in the early 1960s and tells a tale of racial segregation.
The film, directed by Peter Farrelly, also won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay while Mahershala Ali took home Best Supporting Actor for his role in the hit.
The shocking win came from left field as the Alfonso Cuaron directed Roma was widely expected to scoop the sought after accolade.
Elsewhere it was a night of predictability with Rami Malek awarded Best Actor for his portrayal of the late Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.
Lady Gaga’s hit Shallow from A Star is Born received a nod for Best Original Song while Black Panther was the winner for Best Original Score.
British actress Olivia Colman gave a rousing acceptance speech after receiving the Best Actress Oscar for her leading role in The Favourite, leaving a much-nominated Glenn Close disappointed again.
Regina King emerged as Best Supporting Actress for her turn in If Beale Street Could Talk.
The Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay went to BlacKkKlansman while Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse came out on top in the Best Animated Feature Film heat.
