The real reason there is no announcement about Lisa Wilkinson’s replacement

Who will take the coveted position alongside Stefanovic?

Popular television host Lisa Wilkinson made headlines across Australian when she abruptly quit The Today Show after Channel Nine refused to pay her the same salary as he male co-host Karl Stefanovic.

Since then, rumours have been swirling around who will replace the veteran journalist.

A Nine insider has reportedly told The Daily Telegraph that executives are exploring a ‘number of options’.

‘There is a thought that going left of field with something unexpected could be smart,’ the source revealed.

The source also tells the Telegraph that 60 Minutes’ Allison Langdon, 38, is a possible option, ‘She would be great and she is a possibility.’

However a clear front-runner is Deborah Knight, 44, who already holds experience in hosting the breakfast program, alongside Karl, 43.

Meanwhile prior contender Georgie Gardner, 46, is ruled out, with the hours not conducive to family life as a mother-of-two.

It’s still unclear as to who will be replacing the 57-year-old host, but at last week’s Melbourne Cup festivities, former MKR contestant Ash Pollard hinted she might possibly take the coveted gig

Meanwhile, since her shock departure from the popular morning program, Wilkinson has announced she will be joining Channel 10 in 2018 on popular news program The Project.
