Shock Kmart product recall: What you need to know

The store has issued a severe warning

Kmart has recalled one of its most popular electrical appliances over grave fears for customers’ safety.

A warning has been issued for the popular budget store’s home&CO two slice stainless steel toaster after electrical faults were reported.

‘Some of the toasters have a faulty switch, causing the heating element to remain “live” when the lever is up and the toaster appears turned off,’ the warning read.

‘The item poses a potential electrocution hazard. Contact with the heating element may result in a severe electric shock of 240V.’

Customers have taken to social media to tell of their terrifying experiences using the appliance.

‘Bugger, chucked mine out last week, it literally blew up in my face,’ one person wrote online.

‘I chucked mine out a couple weeks after I bought it – tripped the safety switch twice,’ another wrote.

‘When I went to use it the power went down,’ one shared.

‘Ours stopped working two weeks after we bought it … threw it out weeks ago,’ another person said.

The recall affects toasters that were bought between September 2016 and November 2017 with the model number TL-136.

Kmart have advised customers to stop using the toaster immediately and return it to the store for a full refund.
