Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has fled her Royal Tour of Africa with husband Prince Charles early, leaving the Prince of Wales to carry out his final engagements solo.
Charles was seen arriving at Lagos airport in Nigeria sans his wife as he embarked on the final day of his eight-day tour of West Africa.
A palace insider told Express the early departure was because Camilla “doesn’t want to take too much on”.
A Clarence House spokesperson has previously revealed the duchess is not a fan of flying, and this is why she cuts her tours short.
The news of Camilla’s departure comes just a day after the pair were forced to cancel an appearance due to security scares.
The royal couple landed in the capital city, Abuja, on Nov. 6 after it was confirmed they would pull out of an engagement in the city of Jos because of sectarian violence.
The Prince of Wales and his wife were met by President Muhammad Buhari at the State House Villa where they attended a reception with the British High Commissioner Paul Arkwright.
A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office confirmed the decision to cancel the Prince’s visit to Jos, which is a prosperous city of nearly one million but has been caught up in much of the violence plaguing central Nigeria.
She said:”Due to operational constraints beyond our control, we have decided at this time not to include Jos during their royal highnesses’ visit to Nigeria.
