Thousands of mourners arrived at the funeral of 21-year-old murdered student Aiia Maasarwe in her home town of Baqa al-Gharbiya, north of Tel Aviv.
Maasarwe was a Palestinian citizen of Israel studying in Melbourne, who was killed after getting off a tram near La Trobe University at Bundoora.
Following the burial, the funeral was interrupted by the Palestinian Presidents envoys, although they were silenced by Aiia’s family due to concerns the event would become politicised.
The 21-year-old student was on her way home from a night out at a comedy club when police believe she was attacked.
According to reports, Ms Maasarwe had been FaceTiming her sister at the time of her death as she was apparently so scared of her walk home from the tram station to her student accommodation.
Codey Herrmann, 20, has been charged with Maasarwe’s rape and murder.
