The A to E of skincare essentials

Vitamin-packed products for healthy, glowing skin

Most of us probably know our vitamin As from Cs when it comes to taking care of our nutrition, but when it comes to choosing skincare, things can get a little confusing. Different vitamins target specific skin concerns so knowing your ingredients will help you navigate your way through the beauty aisles when searching for your next hero product. Here is the A to E of essential ingredients and how they can transform your skin from woe to glow.

Vitamin A (aka Retinol)

Vitamin A, better known as Retinol in skincare, is one of the best ingredients to transform a myriad of skin concerns into smooth, clear skin. With regular use under your moisturiser, Retinol can even out skin tone, deal with pesky pigmentation issues and can visibly reduce the appearance of lines (and can even be used under the eyes). This all-round gem comes in various strength grades, so if you are new to the Retinol game, start with the 2% concentration and build up to 5% once your skin has adjusted. Do make sure you apply SPF sunscreen every day, particularly when using Retinol. Try Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion by The Ordinary.

Vitamin B

Vitamin B is a bit of an unsung hero in skincare. This powerhouse ingredient is fantastic for reducing inflammation, calming redness and for strengthening the skin’s barriers so it is particularly suited to sensitive skin. Vitamin B also packs a hydration punch and is great for improving the skin’s overall brightness and suppleness. Try Alpha H Vitamin B Serum.

Vitamin C

If you are looking for a youth-boost, then vitamin C is the ingredient for you. Its antioxidant properties help the skin to rejuvenate and its acidity assists the skin in healing itself while promoting collagen production (yes please!). Moreover, vitamin C protects the skin from environmental stressors as well as going to work on pigmentation and restoring overall radiance. Try Medik8 c-Tetra Lipid Vitamin C Antioxidant Serum.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is certainly no newcomer to skincare, but this workhorse ingredient will always have a place on our beauty shelves. It is commonly known for working its wonders in healing scars and stretch marks, but did you know that it also helps protect the skin against pollution? It also lends its hydrating properties to dry and patchy skin while helping to repair stressed skin. In a nutshell, vitamin E is a fabulous all-round beauty booster.
