Legendary French actor Gerard Depardieu has been accused of raping and sexually assaulting a 22-year-old actress in Paris earlier this month.
The allegations were made about the actor to French law enforcement, according to reports.
According to various outlets, the alleged accusations were claimed to have taken place at Depardieu’s Parisian home, a lavish mansion in the 6th arrondissement of the city on August 13.
The 69-year-old actor has strongly denied the allegations, his lawyer told AFP.
The Paris public prosectors office reportedly opened a preliminary inquest into the allegations against Depardieu following the accusers alleged complaint lodged on Monday.
Herve Termime, Depardieu’s lawyer, said: ‘I regret the public nature of this process which poses a major prejudice to Gerard Depardieu, whose innocence I am convinced will be recognised.’
