Network Ten was bought out by American television network CBS last year. Now at the request of the US network, Channel Ten’s Australian newsreaders and presenters must undergo voice training for a more ‘grandiose’ sound, The Daily Telegraph reports.
A Channel Ten spokesperson said in a statement that the vocal coaching was an ‘industry standard’ and added, ‘We think it is important to invest in our team’.
The move is believed to affect a wide range of veteran newsreaders including Sandra Sully and Natarsha Belling.
Hosts of shows like The Project may also undergo the training, potentially including stars like Carrie Bickmore and Waleed Aly.
The Daily Telegraph also reported the move ‘offended’ veteran TV stars at the network.
Sandra Sully told the publication, ‘All broadcast journos are encouraged to do voice work and I’ve done that on and off from day dot.’
