Shannen had previously revealed her desperate hope to cling to her health for as long as she can... expecting advancements in treatments soon.
"I always talk about the fact that we just need to squeeze out another three to five years, and then there’s going to be T-cell therapy or there’s going to be this,” she said.
“There’s going to be a lot more options that will give another five years.
“Then in those five years, there’s a whole other group of options, and eventually there’s going to be a cure,” she added.
Shannen appears very hopeful that the future holds encouraging advancement that will allow her to live a longer life.
Shannen recently revealed that she had her brain tumour removed shortly after discovering that her husband had been cheating on her for the past two years.
On the debut episode of her new podcast, Let's Be Clear with Shannen Doherty, she shared some details of her divorce amid her cancer battle.
"I went into that surgery early in the morning and I went in after I found out that my marriage was essentially over, that my husband had been carrying on an affair for two years,” she said.
“To not go in that surgery, even though, being very clear, he wanted to go, I couldn’t go into that surgery with him there. I felt so betrayed.
"At the end of the day, I just felt so incredibly unloved by someone I was with for 14 years, by someone I loved with all my heart."
Shannen tried to focus on her health but admitted that it all was very overwhelming.
“Just to have to go through all of that while trying to figure out if you’re going to get a frickin’ divorce and trying to get to the truth of that,” she said.
“And honestly, it’s still really hard. Yes, I made the decision to file for divorce, but I have a lot of memories with this person.
“Some of the decisions that I made that he may not have agreed with, and his fear, so I do take responsibility for some of that. I do not take responsibility for the demise of our marriage because I am not a quitter. If somebody is still showing me loyalty and respect and love, I’m going to hang in there. I’m going to try my hardest."
Reflecting upon her deteriorating health with PEOPLE in November 2023, Shannen asserted that she didn't want to die, and was more determined than ever to live her life.
"I'm not done with living. I'm not done with loving. I'm not done with creating. I'm not done with hopefully changing things for the better. I'm just not - I'm not done," she said with a smile.
This isn't the first time Shannen has spoken candidly about her cancer journey, taking to her Instagram account in January 2023 to shed new light on her ongoing health battle.
"On January 5th, my CT scan showed Mets [metastases] in my brain... January 12, the first round of radiation took place. My fear is obvious. I am extremely claustrophobic and there was a lot going on in my life," she wrote at the time.
"That fear…. The turmoil….. the timing of it all…. This is what cancer can look like," she continued.
Just over a week later, Shannen shared a video to her Instagram from January 16th of the same year, revealing that she was "petrified" to undergo brain surgery.
"Surgery. I had a tumor in my head that they wanted to remove and also biopsy. I am clearly trying to be brave but I am petrified. The fear was overwhelming to me," Shannen wrote.
"Scared of all possible bad outcomes, worried about leaving my mom and how that would impact her. Worried that I would come out of surgery not me anymore. This is what cancer can look like."
Throughout the duration of her health battle, Shannen has continued to provide updates on her well-being.
In 2021 she told her followers that she hopes to bring to light a 'truthful' perspective on what cancer looks like.
"Is it all pretty? NO, but it's truthful and my hope in sharing is that we all become more educated, more familiar with what cancer looks like," she wrote on Instagram.
"I hope I encourage people to get mammograms, to get regular checkups, to cut through the fear and face whatever might be in front of you."
“I don’t think I’ve processed it. It’s a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways,” she said, referring to her stage four diagnosis.
“I definitely have days where I say, ‘Why me? And then I go, well, ‘Why not me? Who else? Who else besides me deserves this?’ None of us do."
The former Beverly Hills 90210 star went on to say that she initially didn’t tell people about her condition out of respect for her friend and co-star Luke Perry, who passed away in 2019.
Shannen, who also appeared in the Beverley Hills 90210 reboot said it was a wonderful opportunity to prove she could work despite her health, but also pay homage to Luke.
She explained that it was very rewarding to appear in the reboot because it showed that people with stage four can work too.
“Our life doesn’t end the minute we get that diagnosis. We still have some living to do."
