Queen Elizabeth ordered Prince Charles to leave the country during what was a rocky time in his marriage with the late Princess Diana.
Royal author Kitty Kelley revealed that the Duke of Edinburgh’s wife would often prescribe sunshine as the answer to relationship woes.
Kitty wrote in her new book, The Royals: “When the Queen saw the first signs of dissension between the couple, she proposed Charles and Diana take a trip.
“‘In that type of situation, Her Majesty always recommends escape,’ sad one of her friends.
“Her solution is to get away together, sort things out, and everything will be fine.
“It’s always worked for her.
“Why shouldn’t it work for them?”
The royal duo then headed to the Bahamas, with Charles maintaining it was a break was so Diana could “prepare” for the birth of their first child.
Charles and Diana divorced on August 28, 1996 - a year before the princess died.
