In the clips – which were recorded by her voice coach Peter Settelen between 1992 - 1993 - the late royal makes a series of controversial revelations about her husband’s ongoing affair with Camilla Parker Bowles and speaks candidly about their “odd” sex life.
“Well, there was. There was, there was,” she says in the footage.
“But it was odd, very odd… Instinct told me. It was just so odd.”
“There was never a requirement for it from [sic] his case. Sort of once every three weeks... But it was there, it was there and then it fizzled out about seven years ago.”
“I kept thinking it followed a pattern,” she continues.
“He used to see his lady once every three weeks before we got married. If I could write my own script I would have my husband go away with his woman and never come back.”
Later, the mother-of-two describes her wedding to Prince Charles as the “worst day of my life,” and reveals she only met the future-king 13 times before they tied the knot.
“He’d ring me up every day for a week and then he wouldn’t speak to me for three weeks,” she recalls.
“Very odd.”
The ‘People’s Princess’ also addresses her widely rumoured fling with bodyguard Barry Mannakee but denies they ever slept together.
“I fell deeply in love with someone who worked in this environment… And he was the greatest fella I’ve ever had,” she says.
The tapes, which originally surfaced in 2001 following a police raid at Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell’s residence, will air across Britain in a new Channel 4 documentary.
The royal family are reportedly outraged at the decision to make the content public viewing. However, it’s believed Channel 4 decided to proceed with the broadcast in light of Prince Harry and Prince William opening up about their mother’s passing.
“Because the princes are talking about it, it was considered more OK to release it,” a source told The Telegraph.
“Also, there comes a point when something becomes historically interesting so it was decided to let the material speak for itself.”
