Selena has olive skin, deep brunette hair and brown eyes.
Those eyes of hers are heaven by the way. But not so according to whoever designs the beautifying filters so many of us are using these days. This is something that bothers Selena and rightly so.
In fact, it irked her so much that she posted a story to social media lamenting the fact that many of the 'pretty' filters turn the user’s eyes blue.
“Literally every single Snapchat filter has blue eyes,” Selena said in the now-expired story.
“But…what if you have brown eyes? Am I supposed to have these eyes ... to like ... look good?”
In another clip, she tried out the enlarged-nose filter and the filter that turns your mouth into an oversized lemon shape.
“They use my brown eyes for this one,” she said about the latter. “I don't understand; they have all the blue eyes for the [filters] that are really pretty.”
It's worth thinking about - particularly in this day and age. After all, reams of research shows that young people, women in particular, are deeply impacted by what they see on social media and have little ability to ascertain what's real and what's filtered.
Isn't it about time we did our best to embrace our own features plus those of others who fall outside of what might be deemed pretty in a Hollywood sense? We think yes.
As for Selena, she finished her story with a shout out to folk with eyes that are not blue declaring them equally as appealing.
"Brown eyes are beautiful," she said.
“I’m done! Love you guys.”
