Sam and Phoebe Burgess had plans to expand their brood before calling quits on their marriage.
In an interview with Who, the former journalist had revealed she planned on having more children after her back surgery.
'I’ve had two surgeries and four stays in hospital,' Phoebe who suffers from a degenerative disc issue revealed.
‘But also for the fact that I have some really serious structural issues with my back so the closer we have kids together, the closer I’ll be to getting that fixed and then potentially looking at having another baby,’ the 29-year-old added.
Phoebe’s back issues stemmed from a skiing accident in her youth.
'We planned to have them even closer but you have to listen to your body and go with what's possible,' she told the publication at the time.
The NRL star reportedly split from his journalist wife three weeks after the birth of their second child Billy Mark.
On Wednesday January 2, Sam was pictured leaving his marital home with three large suitcases before Phoebe’s mother Sarah Hooke arrived.
A close friend of the couple told the Daily Telegraph that their relationship had been strained for a while.
'They tried to keep it together but it all went to s**t, that's the honest truth. It is pretty messy,' the source claimed.
The split comes after Sam was cleared of any wrongdoing in the sexting scandal that happened in September when Phoebe was 28 weeks pregnant.
