Princess Mary's hell: What Prince Frederik's been hiding

The heir to the Danish throne is battling serious health issues. - by Nikki Black
  • 22 Aug 2018

Crown Prince Frederik has been hiding a deep, dark secret, and in shock new reports, there are great fears for the health of the future heir to the Danish throne.

According to the Danish press, the 50-year-old is suffering ‘severe back pain’ and despite intensive treatment, the prince can barely walk and is limping around at a snail’s pace, looking visibly stressed every time he attempts to move.

During a recent family holiday at their summer residence, Grasten Palace, reports claimed the prince constantly had to pause and stretch his back. And when he wanted to get up from either a sitting or lying position, it was clear that Denmark’s future king was struggling.

‘It’s obvious from the pictures that the crown prince is constantly seeking a posture that gives him less pain. His body language reveals that he’s in constant pain,’ Doctor Jerk Langer told Danish publication Se Og Hor (See And Hear).

‘The recovery period is somewhat between 3 to 6 months. There’s no quick fix.

‘These aches in the back torment him day and night,’ Dr Langer added. ‘You have a hard time keeping the body in the same position for a longer period of time. You get up, sit back down, turn and toss, stretch and bend without finding a comfortable position.’

According to the publication, doctors have ordered new tests and new physiotherapists to try and help Frederik with this ongoing back injury.

Meanwhile, a source in Copenhagen tells New Idea that his pains are so severe his wife Princess Mary is concerned.

‘Mary is really worried about Fred’s health and she fears he’s never going to recover,’ the source claimed.

‘He’s been practically bedridden for weeks now with his back injury, and every time Mary thinks he’s improving, he suffers another setback and just gets worse again.’

It’s not the first time the keen sportsman has been injured. Two years ago, the prince suffered from a severe neck injury when he was trampolining at a private event.

Also, in 2009 he fractured his calf bone and was in a cast for six weeks.

‘It just seems to be one thing after another, and Mary is starting to think that his strength will never return – that he’s always going to be plagued with constant injuries,’ the source spilled.

Fred has always loved exercising and has been committed to his fitness his whole life, and Mary knows how much his workouts help not just his health but his whole state of mind as well.

‘She’s worried that given Fred hasn’t been able to exercise and move around much in recent months, that his mental state will begin to suffer, and he’ll get more and more down.

Mary just hates to see Fred on this downhill spiral and is doing everything she can to help him – both mentally and physically.’

For Fred his regular exercise is extremely important to him.

It was only just recently that Mary couldn’t help but joke about how he had turned into a Mamil (middle-aged man in lycra) on his 50th birthday.

‘For those of you not familiar with the term Mamil it is an English term – now officially recognised in the Oxford English Dictionary for a growing sub-culture of middle-aged men in lycra, who ride expensive racing bicycles,’ she joked to the crowds.

‘Opinions differ as to whether lycra and men that are 40-plus are a good combination.’  The room fell into laughter as Mary added: ‘But darling you still look rather sharp in lycra. I do however, find it a bit difficult when it comes to the combination of lycra, helmet and roller skis.’

Prior to his birthday, the prince spearheaded a fun run for the entire city and could be seen proudly striding through Denmark with his family.

But now poor Frederik is a shadow of his former Mamil self as he hobbles around the palace from one room to another.

‘Everyone – most of all Mary – just wants to see Fred start to improve. She’s worried for his long-term health and just hopes that Fred doesn’t suffer any more setbacks,’ the source added.
