In their backstory, shown in this season’s first episode, the brothers admit they own and run a food truck and that their family owns a popular Italian restaurant in Sydney.
‘My dad has a restaurant and we have a food truck,’ Josh tells New Idea.
‘We do basic food, but when we were on the show it was time to take the cooking up a notch.’
Somehow, their extensive experience in the restaurant and food industry has been largely overlooked, and their family restaurant and food truck have hardly been discussed since.
A quick search on the official MKR Facebook page, however, reveals it’s a different story.
Fans of the show took to the site to share their outrage over the decision to allow the pair into the competition.
One user claimed Josh and Nic ‘shouldn’t be on the show’, while another said: ‘It’s wrong.’
‘If they have a food van, this makes them cooks and on a professional level. They should not be on this show full stop,’ a furious fan wrote.
Josh and Nic are quick to clarify their experience in the food industry, making it clear while they are involved in the family restaurant and own a food truck, they don’t actually cook for the businesses.
‘We just run it... [we’re] not cooking all the time,’ Josh says.
