'Nobody tells me the day is going to be like 12 hours long and that the humidity is going to be almost 100 per cent in New York City,' Jennifer said in a series of clips. 'So I just have to apologise.'
'Wearing a black suit, not a good idea,' she went on. 'Not wearing enough hair spray and teasing in my hair, also a bad idea. I just have to apologize for how wrecked I look in all the pictures that have come out.
'I was literally melting by the time I got to the red carpet. I was honestly melting,' she continued.
'Like, my hair was flat, my make-up was running off my face, and I look like I had completely forgotten I was an actress in this business who is supposed to look [amazing] when you step on the red carpet.'
No doubt many will sympathise with the actress – who has previously come under intense scrutiny about her figure - especially as, over the years, she has enjoyed showing off some dazzling red carpet outfits.
Her appearance in New York was the first time she had walked the red carpet in four years and marked the first time she and her husband, Brian Hallisay, had flown with their kids Autumn and Atticus.
'I had not slept all night. My toddlers were up all night,' she explained. 'It was our first time traveling with them, which is a whole other thing.'
Here, New Idea takes a look back at Jennifer’s most memorable looks over 14 years of red carpet appearances.
2004
Back in 2004, Jennifer rocked a pair of simple blue jeans and a sparkly top as she attended Nickelodeon's 17th Annual Kids' Choice Awards in California.
The actress showed off her slender physique in the low-cut strappy top – and wore simple dropped earrings, with her brunette hair swept back from her face
2006
Jennifer opted for sparkles again as she attended the 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, in August 2006.
This time the actress opted for a figure-hugging floor-length dress, accessorising with a silver clutch bag.
Her hair, this time, was swept across her forehead.
2010
This time Jennifer embraced the body-con trend of the time, opting for a very figure-hugging blue strappy mini-dress as she attended the 100th episode celebration of Ghost Whisperer.
Styling her hair in a sleek updo, the actress walked the red carpet in West Hollywood.
2011
The actress’ penchant for a body-con dress continued in August 2011 as she wore a vibrant orange number for the premiere of Café.
By now, Jennifer had cut her hair into a sultry fringe and she looked tanned and healthy on the red carpet in California.
2012
Jennifer’s love of sparkles was back on display in April 2012, when she attended the launch of Lifetime’s new series The Client List.
The actress wore a very low cut style for the occasion and by now had grown her hair into long, gently curling tresses.
2014
In July 2014, Jennifer ditched the dress to rock a black jumpsuit at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour in California.
The black and gold creation was cinched in at the waist, making the most of her hourglass silhouette.
This time, she had her hair cut into a bob, with loose waves framing her face.
