The 49-year-old escaped conviction after pleading guilty to 23 charges of obtaining a financial benefit by deception.
She was overpaid $14,000 in welfare payments.
“I was this close to being in a shelter,” Ajay told her campmates of what happened next.
“I had $7.11 to my name… I emailed almost everyone I knew and begged for money.”
But Ajay spoke of how she had become stronger over the years.
“You just survive… “ she said.
“And eventually it becomes a different part of your life.”
