Now, the 49-year-old entertainer has spoken to WHO and made a new confession about his early childhood.
The Greatest Showman star said his mother leaving the family and going back to the UK was 'traumatic.'
When asked about his mother, Grace, Jackman told the publication: 'It was traumatic.'
'I thought she was probably going to come back,' he heartbreakingly explained. 'And then it sort of dragged on and on.'
Jackman's father, Christopher, raised himself and his four siblings all on his own - an achievement that Hugh regularly thanks him for.
The talented actor also adds that after his mother left, he saw her 'once a year.'
In an incredibly emotional interview on 60 Minutes in 2012, Jackman broke down in tears discussing his mother's sudden departure.
'I can remember the morning she left, it's weird the things you pick up,' Hugh emotionally explained. 'I remember her being in a towel around her head and saying goodbye, must have been the way she said goodbye. As I went off to school, when I came back, there was no one there in the house.'
He also reveals the moment he discovered she was gone, 'The next day there was a telegram from England, Mum was there. And then that was it.'
Jackman added at the time, 'Dad used to pray every night that Mum would come back.'
Hugh now has his own family. He and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness have adopted two children together - Oscar, 17 and Ava, 12.
