House Rules finale shock: Stars at breaking point

With the stakes higher than ever this week, this proves to be the teams’ toughest renovation yet.

Not only are they fighting for a spot in the House Rules finale, but the home they’re making over has a heartbreaking back story.

It belongs to Chelsea, a young widow and single mum who was shortlisted for the series with her husband, before suddenly losing him in an accident.

All of the teams put their bodies on the line to finish their zones, leaving them exhausted and crying by the end of the reno.

‘There wasn’t a dry eye among us,’ Mel tells New Idea.

With just two hours left to go, David squashes his wrist between the fridge and wall — and it just so happens to be the one he’s had surgery on.

Will David fight through the pain and risk further injuring his hand, or will he let teammate Chiara down by leaving the competition?
