The day she has been dreading is finally here – Irene’s (Lynne McGranger) trial over the assault of Bella’s (Courtney Miller) attacker Tommy (Adam Sollis).
But an overwrought Irene, who’s facing up to 25 years’ jail time, may make a shocking decision as the time nears for her to head to the courtroom.
And it’s one that could have life-changing consequences not only for Irene, but for several Bay residents.
WATCH: Irene meets her cheer squad
At the 11th hour, Irene is devastated to read slanderous comments about herself on Leah’s (Ada Nicodemou) vlog, citing her history with alcoholism and tainted past with her children and the law.
“Irene has been so brave about everything, but now she is absolutely horrified by what she reads,” says Lynne.
“It comes as she is looking at being behind bars for a very long time if she is found guilty of aggravated assault or, even worse, attempted murder. She is terrified for her own future and her own wellbeing.
“In the meantime, Bella is also really suffering and wondering if she, too, can get through the trial,” continues Lynne.
“And, of course, Irene’s distress is heightened because she feels terrible for putting Bella through the ordeal of going on the witness stand.”
Indeed, we see that a distraught Irene is secretly preparing for a life on the run, unable to face the court case.
Will someone uncover Irene’s desperate plan in time to stop her?
