Encountering a ghost is among many people’s worst fears, and that frightening possibility allegedly became a reality for a group of Gold Coast women, who claim they filmed evidence of their terrifying encounter in a local tunnel.
The women, who belong to the group Haunted Down Under, which investigates supposed supernatural phenomena, say they believe they captured an inexplicable series of events while exploring the underground site.

They had been filming at the abandoned Ernest Junction Tunnel near the Gold Coast, which is reputed to be haunted, when they say they ‘felt like someone was near’ them.
‘The reason I panicked was I seen a face coming at me from this side,’ one of the jittery women is seen explaining in the video. ‘OK I’m pulling out, that’s it – I’m done, I’m done. OK that’s not cool.’
Captured on audio was a sound somewhat like a whispering voice, which appeared to utter the warning to one of the women who had gone off to explore alone. The tape recording includes what appears to be the words, ‘walk back to them.’
The women believe the apparent message was a warning about the terror that was to come.
Video records the group then being rocked by a loud sound, that appeared to be an explosion from deep inside the tunnels.
Although, according to Sunrise, police were apparently called, the women conceded during an appearance on the show this morning that the loud bang was most likely a bottle exploding or a firecracker going off, after tricksters became aware the group were doing a live stream from the tunnel and snuck in to pull a prank.
While that concession spoils a lot of the fun, the women are sticking to their story that something otherworldly really happened.
‘We’ve got three good points of evidence,’ insists Hailey Lilley from the group. ‘We’ve got something a psychic’s picked up, we’ve got something on tape, and also some audio.’
