A gruelling cook proved all too much for Emily who has struggled on and off with her stress levels during the show.
But it was all worth it in the end when the couple scored 55 out of 60 for their five course meal.
‘We’re finally going to own our own place,’ Emily said.
In the Grand Final, teams produced a five-course menu, producing a total of 100 plates for a packed restaurant of judges, friends and family and teams.
It was a bumpy road for the long-time couple who weren't always among the favourites to take out the competition.
Alex and Emily explained to New Idea that they had to fight hard for their relationship, and the stresses of the cooking contest weighed heavily on them.
‘We had days where we were at each other, cooking late nights,’ Alex revealed.
‘And then in bed I would turn to Emily and say: “Look, it’s only food, let’s just wipe it off, it’s not worth losing a relationship over.”’
The hospitality duo made a point of discussing how they would handle the pressures of MKR before filming of the popular show kicked off.
‘It was an emotional roller-coaster, really one of the most emotional things I have done in my life,’ Alex said.
‘You really want to do well. You want to do well in what you have signed up for and that really buckled me and Emily down.
‘We wanted to perform so well, but we tried our best. And there were really trying times.’
