Although she has over 200 custom-made handbags in her collection by her favourite label Launer, the bag she continues to go back to time and time again is set apart by an unusual emblem that dates the bag back to 1968 or earlier.
The monarch has been photographed with the bag at multiple events and also appears in a 2018 portrait she sat for in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle.
When the portrait was unveiled in front of the 92-year-old, artist Benjamin Sullivan said that "it was almost happenstance that [the handbag] was placed there,"
"It's where she put it and I thought I could take it out. But then I thought it's actually quite a nice thing, a personal thing."
A royal source has revealed that the handbag was indeed made by Launer but for another brand, Rayne.
The Queen awarded Launer her Royal Warrant in 1968 and from that point onwards her bags were made with its own twisted rope emblem.
However, she has continued to use this one distinctive vintage bag. It was even on her arm in 1970 when she met with US President Richard Nixon with Prime Minister Edward Heath.
The bag has also been spotted on her arm in 2000 when she hosted Bill and Hillary Clinton at the palace as well as in 2003 and 2017 at the Royal Horse Artillery parade.
"It is so nice that people know the handbags were made to such quality and professionalism. They last for such a long time," said a source.
