VISIT A CAT CAFE
There are plenty of cat cafes springing up where you can go and get your feline fix and enjoy the relaxing benefits of having a kitty on your lap. Some of them will let you bring your laptop, so you can work alongside your furry friends. Or you could find yourself doing a fundraising yoga session, followed by some kitten cuddling. Often, the cats and kittens may be available for adoption, so it’s a good way to get to know your kitty first.
WATCH CUTE ANIMAL VIDEOS
A survey by Indiana University found that watching videos of cute animals can help you feel more positive, as well as boosting your energy levels.
The participants also said they felt less anxiety, annoyance and sadness after watching cats on the internet. And, even though many people say they use the videos to procrastinate when they should be working or studying, Japanese researchers have found that watching these videos can improve work performance.
VOLUNTEER AT A SHELTER
There are lots of animal shelters that use volunteers and even have their own training programs. It can be popular, so check the websites of your local shelters, or give them a call. Volunteers may find themselves walking dogs, cleaning out cages, feeding or grooming the animals.
OFFER TO HELP FRIENDS
If you’ve got friends who own a dog, they may welcome an extra pair of hands to help with walking duties. Or perhaps you could just go along for company and improve your fitness at the same time.
If animals can’t find a home immediately, the shelter may have a fostering program that you could get involved in. Foster care helps provide animals with the strength and confidence they need so that they’re ready to go to their forever families. They need love, and they will give it too! Talk to your local vet about their recommended fostering organisation.
