‘And we were told the one that got him in the throat was the one that did it, because the rest of them wouldn't have been as life threatening.
‘They think that the throat one was the first one, and then the rest where his hands and that were where he was trying to protect himself.’
Wayne lost his life on 10 February 1993 as he returned to his unit in Liverpool, NSW, after refereeing a football game.
His killer has never been caught.
As Wayne headed upstairs to his unit, he was ambushed and stabbed multiple times in a frenzied attack.
‘I can't go to his grave. Every time I go to his grave, I just break right down because I want to take him with me. I don't want to leave him behind,’ his heartbroken mum told New Idea Investigates.
‘We know where and we know how, but just the why? Why and who?’
