Watch the Avon Descent
The Avon Descent is one of Perth’s best-kept secrets. It’s an exciting two-day race for kayaks and small powerboats down the hazardous rapids of the Avon River, through the picturesque Swan Valley, and into the upper Swan River. On the route from Northam to Bassendean, there are family events planned. In 2019 the Avon Descent runs August 3rd and 4th, 2019.
Sydney culture walks
This City of Sydney initiative is a fantastic way to explore the city, download the Sydney Culture Walks app and explore the city via a range self guided tours that take you through the art and history of the city. If you don't want to use the app you can still do the tours by obtaining free, full colour brochures from City Of Sydney information kiosks.
Take a free bike tour of Adelaide
Adelaide’s flat, wide streets and free bike hire at depots in the CBD make it perfect for cycling. The Linear Park cycle path along the River Torrens is a great way to spend the day. With lots of things to see, it’s a 40-minute cycling adventure from the city to Henley Beach.
Tiptoe through the tulips at Floriade
Floriade, an annual Canberra event that started during the Bicentenary in 1988, showcases incredible floral displays, cultural events and recreational activities along the banks of Lake Burley Griffin. And the best part? Your family’s best friend can take part! Dog’s Day Out is a popular day in which the gardens are opened up to our four-legged friends. Floriade runs from September 14 through to October 13, 2019.
A farm visit five minutes from Melbourne's CBD
Collingwood Children's Farm has been a Melbourne institution for 40 years and this unique inner city haven is a great place to take kids for a day out in the city. Help feed the animals, comb the cows or just wander the paddocks and enjoy the rustic atmosphere. Every first Sunday of the month from February to November is family day with pony and tractor rides and the Farmers Market is every 2nd Saturday of the month. Every June the farm hosts a huge bonfire with entertainment, great food and mulled wine, you'll have to buy tickets in advance as it always sells out.
