According to a new investigation, your invitation may be more of a sympathy nod.
“Royal garden parties are being secretly used as a way of rewarding failed nominees to the honours list,” The Times claims.
Furthermore, “Lord-lieutenants, the Queen’s local representatives, are being sent questionnaires to rate candidates for OBEs, CBEs and other honours.”
Guests are given an invitation if the reps deem them, “a case more worthy of attendance at a royal garden party,” than recognition of a spot on the Queen’s honours list.
According to The Express, from the 3,500 nominations each year, around 2,000 receive honours.
However, if you prefer to rub shoulders with The Queen herself, plus the extended Royal Family, then an invitation to London's Buckingham Palace or the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland is a dream come true!
The Express details how "27,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake are enjoyed at each party," with 30,000 guests admiring The Queen's collection of flora annually.
