Are you failing to say “no” to your children?
Are they on technology all the time?
If so, you could be responsible for your children doing worse at school and struggling socially and emotionally, according to a child expert.
Paediatric occupational therapist Victoria Prooday says she is seeing a marked change in children’s behaviours due to parents neglecting to set boundaries.
“Throughout my ten years as an occupational therapist, I have seen and continue to see a decline in kids’ social, emotional, academic functioning,” she wrote. “As well as a sharp increase in learning disabilities and other diagnoses.”
She also says we are trying to please children too much and neglecting to say “no”.
Likewise, we are creating a world of “endless fun” where kids are never bored.
These are the five key mistakes she says parents are making:
Not restricting technology
Not saying “no”.
Worrying about their happiness all the time.
Not letting them get bored.
Thinking they always have to be having fun.
