Controversial businessman Travers Beynon AKA The Candyman is no stranger to making headlines.
Coined as Australia’s Hugh Hefner, the entrepreneur is famous for having multiple girlfriends and throwing extravagant parties at his mansion on the Gold Coast.
But a court heard that The Candyman is just a cleverly crafted marketing gimmick used to promote tobacco (which Australia bans advertising for).
During a court hearing this week, it was revealed that his infamous Candyman character is just for publicity.
Suzanne Ozioko, who is employed at Beynon’s tobacco company FreeChoice Australia as human resources operations manager reveals Travers “took on the persona of The Candyman” because they were “unable to market any sort of tobacco”.
She explained: “It is a persona that we use to sort of market where we can within the brand of FreeChoice Australia - we are unable to market any sort of tobacco - so it is a brand we use to entertain and market.”
The Candyman recently appeared on Kyle and Jackie O where he opened up about his eccentric lifestyle, including the fact he has three king-sized beds to accommodate for all the women in his life.
“It’s custom-made and full (of women). You can fit three in a bed on a good night,” he said.
