Dan attributes the highly physical nature of The Block to helping him lose the weight.
'Running up and down stairs every day and doing the physical work,' he reasons.
'I quite enjoyed it. It was good, I could feel the kilos peeling off me. When I was pulling the belt in and I didn’t have any notches left, I knew I must have lost a bit.’
Handyman Dan is accustomed to hard work and exercise having played AFL at a state level in Western Australia and Victoria.
However, he admits he'd let himself slip in recent year.
'Before coming on this, I was the classic 55-year-old who just loved his food and his drink and didn’t exercise a lot,' he says.
'I’d always surfed and swam, only in the last couple of years I’d sort of got a little bit lazy. Then coming on the show, I knew I could work and then after four or five weeks, I could feel the weight falling off.’
