When you’re over 40 what you need in a foundation is a base that’s going to make you glow with good health, not sit in your wrinkles and make you look older than you really are. So, the first thing you need to do is update your look because the foundation you were using 10 years ago is not the right one heading into a new decade. Make the switch to a hydration-boosted liquid foundation and apply with your fingers as this will make it last longer (and keep sponges and brushes for special events as they absorb a lot of product).
Look for buildable coverage so you can adjust on days when skin needs a bit more work to even out.
And remember, every women needs two shades of foundation - one for summer months and one for winter, and then blend them together for the months in-between for the perfect shade.
The 5 foundations I recommend to my girlfriends:
- What: MUD Flawless Finish Foundation, $6, woolworths.com.au
Why: Because at this price is just an easy to apply, go-to for daytime wear with added SPF 15 protection.
- What: Designer Brands Luminous Hydrating Foundation, $19.99, dbcosmetics.com.au
Why: This one feels and wears just like a high-end brand without the price tag to match, and leaves my skin feeling soft all day long.
- Natio Pure Mineral Foundation, $19.95, natio.com.au
Why: I like the added repair and hydrating ingredients of jojoba oil, Vit C and E, and so will your skin.
- Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, $99, myer.com.au
Why: An award-winner with good reason. It’s lightweight design was inspired by the world’s finest fabrics and it delivers a unique glow that is unmatched in the foundation world. And it’s available in a staggering 30 shades.
5. Bobbi Brown Skin Nourishing Glow Foundation, $95, bobbibrown.com.au
Why: Dry skin needs this cream base that’s infused with many skin plumping ingredients. It has medium, buildable coverage yet never feels heavy on my skin and has good staying power.
