Here’s what happened when I used the StylPro brush cleaner

Who knew cleaning brushes could be fun? - by Liz Tse

Here’s what happened when I used the StylPro brush cleaner

When it comes to beauty, I’m all about taking short cuts. Dry shampoo is one of mankind’s greatest creations and my beauty bag is filled with two-in-one products. Needless to say, I’m definitely guilty of leaving it way too long in between makeup brush cleanses.

So when I saw a nifty little gadget by the name of StylPro offering to do all the hard work by cleaning my makeup brushes for me, I had to try it.

The Stylpro claims to ‘clean and dry brushes in seconds’ AKA no more waiting around for hours until your brushes dry. It comes with a bowl and ‘lid’, an assortment of silicon ‘collars’ to hold your brush, a spinner device and batteries.

Although the parts come dismantled, it’s pretty simple to figure out how to put the pieces together. There’s also a helpful list of instructions (complete with diagrams), for those who have issues assembling.

Once I had the device ready to go, I chose two different-sized makeup brushes to try out. I fit the first one (a powder brush) to the rubber collar and attached it to the electronic handle.

I filled the bowl with water and makeup cleanser, then placed the brush head in the bowl, allowing it to whiz around for 10 seconds. After emptying the lid into the below tray (at this point, the water had turned into a not-so-pleasant shade of brown), you just press the button until the brush spin dries. Simple!

But does it pass the cleanliness test? Upon inspection, I was impressed to find the brush looked new-ish again. The murkiness of the bowl was also an indication of just how much gunk was caught in the brushes. I was worried all the spinning might damage the bristles, but they miraculously retained their fluffiness! It’s a definite game changer for me.
