The teen, who lost both her feet, some fingers and her right ear in the childcare centre accident, suffered a further setback aged six when she was struck on a pedestrian crossing.
But she has never let her injuries get in the way of living life. During her teenage years, she focused her time on acting by studying at NIDA and taking classes at Dee Why studio, Stage Artz.
"I just want to have fun with acting," she says. "I don't care about fame and just want to meet good people and have fun," she told PerthNow.
Fellow actor and Dance Academy star Keiynan Lonsdale spoke about working with Sophie, telling PerthNow, "I feel like we just made a really good friend. It was such a fun experience, I only hope Sophie came out as inspired as we did after meeting her."
