Six things you didn't know about the royal baby

Kate and Wills have welcomed a little boy. - by Zoe Burrell
  • 24 Apr 2018

The moment that royal watchers have been waiting for is here!

Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed a little baby boy at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington on the 23rd of April, 2018.

And, while we are still waiting on the new tot’s name, here are six things you might not have known about the new royal baby.

1. He was big

Weighing in at 8 Ibs and 7 oz, the new prince was the heaviest royal baby at birth in the past 100 years, according to Daily Mail.

In contrast, Princess Charlotte weighed 8 Ibs 3 oz when she was born and George was 8 Ibs 6 oz.

2. It was a quick birth

Kate was only in the hospital in labour for five hours before welcoming the royal tot, which is a relatively quick birth. Of course, we don’t know how long Kate was in labour before they made the dash to the hospital.

3. We already know the baby’s title

We might not know his name yet but we do know his title – His Royal Highness Prince (name goes here) of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Now that’s quite a mouthful!

4. The new baby is the same star sign as the Queen

The new prince will be a Taurus just like his great-grandmother, who was born on April 21, 1926 and his big sister, Charlotte, who was born on May 2, 2015.

People born under the sign of Taurus are said to be practical, hard-working, loyal, ambitious, great at making money through business ventures and they love the finer things in life.

5. His birth marks an important moment in history

The arrival of the new baby is significant because of the impact it will have on Charlotte’s place in line for the throne. Before Prince George’ birth in 2013, British law said that any older sister in the royal family would have to move back a place.

However, under the Succession of the Crown Act of 2013, that law was changed. So, for the first time in history the birth of Charlotte’s little brother will not impact her position.

6. The royal baby is fifth in line to the throne

The new baby will come behind, Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
