In a now deleted tweet, Barr said that White House aide Valerie Jarrett looked like a combination of 'Muslim Brotherhood' and 'Planet of the Apes'.
Viewers were quick to call out her tweets, and the sitcom star responded, 'Muslims are NOT a race.'
Roseanne later wrote, 'I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.'
A string of celebrities have since taken to the social media platform to vent their frustration and outrage at the insensitivity of Roseanne's tweets - including Roseanne cast member Sara Gilbert.
Roseanne has been cancelled effective immediately.
Channel Ten has also decided to remove Roseanne from all it's channels including TEN and ELEVEN.
'Network Ten is appalled and disgusted with Ms Barr’s racist tweet and has removed Roseanne from TEN and ELEVEN, effective immediately,' they said in a statement.
