With her return home just a week away, everyone is talking about Schapelle Corby.
It’s been 13 years since she was arrested in Bali for smuggling 4.2kg of drugs into the country in a boogie board.
Whether you believe her claims of innocence or not, chances are you’ve followed the case like most Australians have.
But it appears the level of interest in Schapelle ahead of her return to Australia next week is getting the better of her.
According to reports in The Courier Mail, parole officers have described her as “scared” and “sick” as she prepares to come home.
Head of Corrections at Bali Law and Human Rights Ministry, Surung Pasaribu, told the publication Schapelle pleaded with him and the parole officers to help her – telling them “I am very afraid. I am sick.”
“She is afraid. She doesn’t know who is chasing her, who will see her, who will interview her,” he said.
“Corby’s sister told us that Corby feels scare to go out from the house, stressed. So our parole officers should monitor her. And based on her, she is very afraid to meet people.”
It’s being reported that Schapelle is so scared to leave her home in Bali, that her sister Mercedes has been meeting parole officers and visiting the Australia consulate for her.
Outside of the Australian consulate, Mercedes had a message for everyone back home… including the media.
“Please give her some privacy, stop (being) in front of the house, just leave her alone please,” she said, according to The Courier Mail.
She said Schapelle was “sick of the media” and sick of them “stalking her”.
Schapelle is due to leave the country on May 27, and despite initial reports she’d be held in detention in an immigration cell before she leaves, the process will be much easier.
Although the full details haven’t been revealed, it’s expect she will have to visit the parole board before heading to the airport and seeing immigration on her way out.
She will be banned from visiting Indonesia for the rest of her life, which means she’ll have to leave her life in Bali behind.
