According to the writer, Fergie wasn't able to receive enough support and consolement from Prince Andrew.
“What can I do? Andrew tells me to take no notice, but he’s away on his ship, not in the midst of things," the Duchess of York said.
Fergie was prompted to try and get in contact with Princess Anne in an attempt to get more involved in royal duties.
"In desperation she asked her Equerry to speak to the Princess Royal’s private secretary, to enquire if there were any requests Anna was unable to fulfil, that Sarah could reasonably do instead.”
The Duchess of York said she struggled to "find a niche for herself" in the royal family, saying she felt caught between Princess Anne and Princess Diana.
“Anne has the Third World and Diana has Birthright...I need to be involved too," she told the author.
Despite no longer being an official member of the Royal family (following her divorce from Prince Andrew in 1996), the Duchess still has a role in a number of charities.
She is the global ambassador for Street Child, and even co-founded Key to Freedom with Prince Andrew in 2012.
