Who Is Samara Weaving?
Samara Weaving was born in Adelaide on February 23, 1992. The model-actress had a globetrotting childhood, growing up in Singapore, Fiji, and Indonesia, before her family moved to Canberra in 2005. She finished high school at Canberra Girls Grammar School and pursued acting full-time soon after she graduated.
Films are really just in Samara Weaving’s blood. After all, Samara’s father is respected filmmaker Simon Weaving, the artistic director of the Canberra International Film Festival. Her uncle is Hollywood star and theatre actor, Hugo Weaving, best known for blockbusters The Matrix and Lord of The Rings. And Sam’s younger sister, Morgan Weaving, is also an actress!
When she first had producers knocking on her door, Sam turned to her family for sound advice: "They were really supportive and were like, ‘Well, what do you really want to do?’ And I thought about it and, ‘Yeah, I want to be an actor.’ And they’re like, ‘Well, you can go to school for that or just learn on the job.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, yeah.’ Because they would say, if that’s your end result and you’ve got an opportunity, then take it.”
Her Big Break On Television
Sam Weaving’s first big acting gig came in 2008, when she scored the role of Kirsten Mulroney in local soap Out of The Blue. Soon after that, she was cast in the recurring role of Indigo “Indi” Walker in Home and Away. Her performance was so good that she was made part of the main cast in just one year!
Samara was also a presenter at the inaugural AACTA Awards, and she got nominated for Audience Choice Award for Best Female Performance in a Television Drama. She also became a brand ambassador for Bonds underwear in 2012! Her success at home soon brought her to the equally sunny shores of Los Angeles, and she quickly scored multiple parts that brought her into the limelight.
This Homegrown Talent Is Making Waves In Hollywood!
Samara moved to Hollywood but continued to act in Australian films like Mystery Road in 2013, and Bad Girl in 2016. What cemented her status as an up-and-coming Hollywood player was getting cast as Heather in the first season of Ash vs. Evil Dead in 2015.
2017, however, was the year Sam really made her mark. She was cast in Oscar-winning dark comedy Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and the thriller The Babysitter, as well as the American comedy series SMILF. Her acting accolades and stunning blonde looks had many people dubbing her the next Margot Robbie, another Australian actress who’s since gone on to Hollywood fame.
Although it’s been tough, she’s kept a level head and has taken all her roles seriously: “You’re constantly doubting yourself, and then you just have to trust the director that they’re gonna pick the right thing,” Sam said.
She went on to star in the miniseries Picnic At Hanging Rock in 2018, before earning nods for her acting in 2019’s Ready Or Not. Sam’s still busy with several projects, as she’s currently filming Guns Akimbo before tackling the role of Thea Preston for 2020’s Bill & Ted Face The Music.
She’s Gotten Tangled In A Couple Of Controversies!
Sam’s unfortunately been the subject of some unwanted buzz. A man called Greg McCurdy took one of her Instagram photos from her Ash vs. Evil Dead days, where she was covered in fake blood. He claimed that the blonde actress was battered because she supported Donald Trump in the last American presidential elections. Sam quickly shut him down and debunked his fake post on Twitter!
Samara has also never posed topless, but she became the victim of fake leaked nudes after site Celeb Jihad posted Photoshopped images of the actress. Her father Simon assured fans that Sam wasn’t going to let it get to her. "We are used to her being in the spotlight and what that involves,” said Simon. "She is a strong girl and she is resilient."
Sam Finds Time For Romance
Though she’s always juggling a busy schedule, Samara Weaving has had a few relationships. She dated her Home and Away onscreen love interest, Axle Whitehead, but he was only her boyfriend for a few months. Sam later met producer Jimmy Warden in 2016, while she was filming The Babysitter. Guess it was true love for this couple, as they just got engaged in March 2019! We couldn’t be happier for these two!
We Predict Big Things From This Talented Actress!
A happy relationship, incredible career, and supportive family? Samara Weaving really does have it all!
