Forget about the bubbly, happy-go-lucky girl who sometimes snorts when she laughs, you’re about to see Sam Frost as you’ve never seen her before.
The former Bachelorette has put everything on the line for her first ever acting role as Jasmine Delaney on Aussie favourite Home And Away.
In her first proper scene, which will go to air next Thursday on Channel Seven, Jasmine is woken up from the medically induced coma she was placed in after the horrific car crash, which killed Kat (Pia Miller).
‘I had never acted before and all of a sudden I have to do this dramatic entrance,’ she tells New Idea.
A worried Leah (Ada Nicodemou), who sat by Jasmine’s bed after discovering she had no family, arrives at the hospital to visit, but the mystery woman is missing!
Frantic, Leah drives off in search of Jasmine and discovers the frail woman walking around looking for her car.
Leah takes her to the diner to have something to eat and calm her down, and explains that Kat died but it wasn't Jasmine's fault.
'I didn't want anybody to get hurt, I just had to get away,' she says through tears.
What’s Jasmine running from?
‘There’s a lot of depth and darkness to my character,’ Sam, 28, hints. ‘Having to delve into this anxious and paranoid energy was quite nerve-racking. Jasmine is really anxious, she’s a big ball of trouble and mess. I really empathise with her a lot.’
Sam admits it was her personal experience with mental health issues that really aided her in those first tough scenes.
‘I’ve spoken quite openly about how I have anxiety,’ she explains.
‘I actually spoke to my psychologist about it. I thought it was really handy to use the tools I’ve learned through my psychologist about myself and my anxiety and dealing with my own troubles.
‘Showing the parts of yourself that you keep quite private when you’re acting is hard, but great. It’s kind of like therapy. You’re feeling out all these emotions that usually you would keep
to yourself.’
Since her first day on set, it’s been a baptism by fire for the down-to-earth starlet. Critics were quick to question her acting abilities, and while the blonde beauty admits that it was tough to handle, she’s come along in leaps and bounds since starting on the show.
‘I definitely think that I’m growing every single week,’ Sam says. ‘The more comfortable I start feeling on set, the better the end result is. [But] I’m expecting there to be criticism.
‘Unfortunately, that comes with the job. Even if I was Cate Blanchett, I’m going to get criticised.’
But Sam has a plan in place for dealing with her detractors!
‘I’m prepared for the criticism,’ she explains. ‘Instead of having a premiere party, I’m going to have my friends come over, we’re turning off our phones and playing board games!'
