Ryan and Cass: Our shock split
It’s the news that no-one saw coming – not even doting parents Ryan and Cass Thisleton.
But in an exclusive interview with New Idea, the couple admit they have split.
After deciding to stay together following their time on controversial TV series Seven Year Switch, the pair seemed to have turned their relationship around.
Sharing adorable Instagram images of their gorgeous new bub Mena, toddler Emmerson and Ramani, Cass’ daughter from a previous relationship, everything appeared perfect for the family-of-five.
However, behind the smiles, the childhood sweethearts say they’ve been quietly struggling.
‘I don’t even know what it was that made us come to the decision to separate,’ Cass explains.
‘It’s not like we had a big fight or anything like that, I think it was just more a realisation.’
Ryan and Cass, both 34, separated two months ago, making the tough decision to focus on their individual happiness so they can be the best possible parents to their girls.
It really impacted our relationship when our son Dex was stillborn four years ago,’ Ryan explains.
‘I really wore down Cass’ patience because I went through severe anxiety and depression after it, and I put the weight of the family on her shoulders to stay strong and keep it together.
‘I’ve never forgiven myself for falling into that mental state. Cass has been trying to help me, but there’s only so much she can do.’
Cass – who still describes Ryan as her best friend – agrees, adding: ‘A relationship can only survive so long when it’s been through that much.
‘We’ve got beautiful children together and they’ve been the glue that’s been keeping us together for this long.
‘Staying together for your children is not the right reason, you need to be happy.’
